Project Overview
For more than a decade, GCG has partnered with public agencies, educational institutions, workforce organizations, tribes, utilities, and community stakeholders to expand access to clean energy careers, energy efficiency training, and workforce development opportunities throughout California.
Through workforce training, community outreach, stakeholder engagement, and program implementation, GCG helped create pathways into the clean energy economy for disadvantaged communities, underserved populations, tribal communities, and hard-to-reach residents.
These efforts laid the foundation for many of the energy efficiency, electrification, and workforce development programs that continue to support California’s clean energy goals today.
The Challenge
California’s transition to a clean energy economy requires more than technology deployment. It requires a trained workforce capable of supporting energy efficiency programs, building performance initiatives, electrification projects, and community energy programs.
Many disadvantaged communities have historically faced barriers, including:
- Limited access to technical training
- Workforce development gaps
- Underrepresentation in energy careers
- Lack of awareness of available programs
- Limited pathways into clean energy industries
- Insufficient access to certification programs
These barriers reinforce inequities at exactly the moment California’s clean energy economy needs broader participation, not less.
